Embellished Holding Onto Africa With Love Aso-Oke Face Mask with Red Lips

Regular price €75,95

Ethical and safety are our new normal.

Staying safe doesn't have to be aesthetically irresponsible. We can remain stylish while being sustainably conscious about our choices and the value and joy it brings to our daily needs.

So, to make a great looking, good quality, and long-lasting face mask that serves the wearer well, it matters that I rethink and adopt creative ways, which I can upcycle and reuse as much discarded materials as possible. Mindfully, using each piece of material to create a one of a kind statement safety wear, that is different from the rest and appeals to our new normal.

I have used Aso-Oke (a cloth created by the Yoruba people of West Africa), together with colourful remnants from African wax prints, which I have intentionally distressed while implementing various fabric manipulation techniques such as applique, together with parts of metallic rayon materials, pieces of jewellery, and fixed artificial nails in a bright pink colour, to construct bold statements of a clenched fist holding onto Africa as a symbol of solidarity and support, and the other hand waving to love.

These bold, vibrant letterings are hand constructed with zero-waste.

For the finishing touches, I have added red lips for the makeup-free days, when all you have to do is smile with your eyes, as the world smiles with you.

This mask is constructed from multiple layers of soft, comfortable, breathable, repurposed fabrics which form the design. Beneath the assembled parts is 100% pink cotton Aso-Oke, which I have lined with colourful, printed polyester fabric.

It also features para-cord ties which can be tied and adjusted around the head and neck to the wearers preferred fit.

This mask is not N95 or FDA rated, it is specifically designed as preventative safety wear to shield your face, mouth, and nose. The wearing of a face mask such as this could still reduce the transmissibility of viral particles by a small but significant amount, enough to make a difference to you and others.
