Reusable, Washable, Distressed, Belted Face Mask With Detachable Earrings

Wearing a face mask is our new normal. To make a great looking, good quality, and long-lasting face mask that brings meaning, joy and value to the wearer every day, it matters that I create, reuse, and refashion as many textiles, and materials as possible. Mindfully and purposefully using each piece of material efficiently.  

Each scrap of repurposed denim jeans has been intentionally distressed, collaged and pieced together using hand and sewing machine, together with various pieces of denim to recreate an interesting style with belt loops and leopard print belt.

For the finishing touches, I have added red lips lined with glistening rhinestones for the makeup-free days, when all you have to do is smile with your eyes and detachable beaded earrings which can be unclipped with a lobster clasp. These beaded earrings, refashioned from recycled materials can also be clipped onto earrings hooks and worn when not wearing the face mask.

This mask is handmade with multiple layers which form the design. The assembled parts are 100% cotton denim, which I have lined with handwoven Aso-oke cloth, created by the Yoruba people of West Africa.

This makes it very breathable and comfortable to wear. It also features ties which can be tied and adjusted around the head and neck to the wearers fit.

This mask is not N95 or FDA rated, it is specifically designed as preventative safety wear to shield your face, mouth, and nose. The wearing of a face mask such as this could still reduce the transmissibility of viral particles by a small but significant amount, enough to make a difference to you and others.

• Hang to dry, and iron at the back with a clean cloth over the face mask at the correct temperature.
