Reusable, Washable, Patchwork, Denim And Woven Aso-Oke Face Mask With Detachable Earrings

Wearing a face mask is our new normal. So, to make a great looking, good quality, and long-lasting face mask that brings meaning, joy and value to the wearer every day, it matters that I create, reuse, and refashion as many textiles, and materials as possible. Mindfully and purposefully using each piece of material efficiently.  

To create this face mask, I have used scraps of repurposed denim jeans, together with parts of metallic and woven Aso-oke cloth, to craft a stylish face mask with layered, textured panelled detailing, which I have enhanced with metallic frilled trimmings.

To finish off the face mask, I have incorporated ruffled metallic handwoven Aso-oke cloth, created by the Yoruba people of West Africa, which I have designed to fall and sweep under the chin area, which is then pulled together with metallic, sheer organza ribbons, to form a neat bow. 

The face mask also comes with detachable earrings which can be unclipped with a lobster clasp. The earrings can also be clipped onto earrings hooks and worn when not wearing the face mask.

This mask is handmade with multiple layers which form part of the textile design detailing. It also features a denim jean layer, as well as, handwoven Aso-oke cloth, which is used as the second layer

This makes it very breathable and comfortable to wear. It also features double elastic straps, which can be pulled and worn around the head and neck. The elastic can also be cut to the wearers fit.

This mask is not N95 or FDA rated, it is specifically designed as preventative safety wear to shield your face, mouth, and nose. The wearing of a face mask such as this could still reduce the transmissibility of viral particles by a small but significant amount, enough to make a difference to you and others.

• Hang to dry, and iron at the back with a clean cloth over the face mask at the correct temperature.
