ROOTED IN HERITAGE. CREATED FOR THE PRESENT.
My work begins with memory , with African visual traditions, cultural stories and my own Igbo heritage.
I am interested in the space between what is inherited and what is becoming. Rather than simply recreating traditional forms, I reinterpret ideas of adornment, symbolism, femininity and identity through my own visual language.
I MAKE WITH MEMORY
A material, a colour, a texture, a story sometimes that is all I need to begin.
I work intuitively, collecting, layering, manipulating and transforming. I am drawn to materials that already carry a sense of history: vintage textiles, beads, stones, cowries, brass, feathers, and found or reclaimed objects.
Through my hands, these elements are given another life.
I don’t always know what a piece will become when I begin. I allow the materials to guide me, responding to their texture, weight, colour and character.
For me, making is a way of remembering, reinterpreting and carrying something forward.
Sometimes, I simply begin and let the materials speak.
