Embellished Appliqué Wow Red Lip Aso-Oke Face Mask

Wearing a face mask is our new normal. To make a great looking, good quality, and long-lasting face mask that brings meaning, joy and value to the wearer every day, it matters that I create, reuse, and refashion as many textiles, and materials as possible, mindfully and purposefully using each piece of material sustainably.

For the design of this face mask, I have used metallic blend rayon fabric, together with vintage handwoven cotton and rayon Aso-Oke cloth, with strips of gold lurex  (a cloth created by the Yoruba people of West Africa), to create a hand gesture design, which I have drawn freehand using a sewing machine.

The hands are then tipped off with pink false nails to add to the uniqueness of this design. For the finishing touches, I have also incorporated red lips for the 'WOW' expression, which I have intricately outlined with printed geometric textiles and shimmering gold beads, which compliments the glistening sparkle of the Aso-Oke cloth 

This mask is handmade with multiple layers which form the design. Beneath the assembled parts is 100% yellow cotton and rayon Aso-Oke, which I have lined with colourful, printed polyester fabric.

The lining makes this face mask very breathable, and comfortable to wear.

This face mask can be tied and adjusted around the head and neck to the wearers fit with a para-cord.

This mask is not N95 or FDA rated, it is specifically designed as preventative safety wear to shield your face, mouth, and nose. The wearing of a face mask such as this could still reduce the transmissibility of viral particles by a small but significant amount, enough to make a difference to you and others.

This face mask can be worn as a headpiece when not in use as safety wear.
