Appliqued Ruffled Lace and Denim Washable Face Mask

Wearing a face mask is our new normal. So, to make a great looking, good quality, and long-lasting face mask that brings meaning, joy and value to the wearer every day, it matters that I create, reuse, and refashion as many textiles, and materials as possible. Mindfully and purposefully using each piece of material efficiently.  

To create this face mask, I have used repurposed denim jeans together with parts of vintage lace, which I have carefully cut, layered and appliqued to craft a stylish face mask, which I have enhanced further with glistening rhinestones and lace trimmings. To finish off, I incorporated ruffled cotton denim, which I have designed to fall and sweep under the chin area. 

This mask is handmade with multiple layers together with cotton denim material, which forms part of the textile design detailing and the lining.

This makes it very breathable and comfortable to wear. It also features double elastic straps with cowrie shell tips, which the wearer can pull and wear around the head and neck. The elastic can also be cut to the wearers fit.

This mask is not N95 or FDA rated, it is specifically designed as preventative safety wear to shield your face, mouth, and nose. The wearing of a face mask such as this could still reduce the transmissibility of viral particles by a small but significant amount, enough to make a difference to you and others.
