We have an African proverb that says; it takes a village to raise a child. As a child on a lone journey, I set off at age 12 to pursue my dreams; my mother and loved ones saw a future in me and set me off to another part of the world to see what the future holds for me.
Scared at age 12, with my bags packed, my bible at hand, as I crossed over and waved goodbye to my mum, and she shed tears, I promised myself I would never fail her, my loved ones and myself.
Life as we know it is not easy, but to receive this recognition, to God be the glory. That girl at age 12, in pursuit of her future on a lone journey, at 40 years old, is supported by a village of encouragers and supporters. Thank you so much to every one of you.
Mama, see your granddaughter 2021 Global Icon. She will be dancing in her grave. Mama, we did it. Your Ani is doing it. In God, I find my strength and refuge.

Can this year get any better? With all the adversities that have impacted many this year, to stand amidst all that is happening with courage and hope at hand as a shield is one that I will never take for granted.
My faith in God never ceases, no matter all that is happening to me and around me.
I know and believe that everything happens at Gods timing. Never rush the process.
Everything takes time; put in the work and trust the process. Never quit when you don't see the outcome straight away. Some gems are discovered en route to the destination.
I share the mantra I live by because many people give up before starting. After all, the journey seems unclear, or the process is too long. If you know why you start something, your end will be inevitable.
Never give up. Believe in yourself and trust that everything comes together to make everything work out for your good and others.
What a delightful way to end 2021. I am so grateful for all the great recognition received this year, 2021. As I caught my breath from winning the “Fashion Accessory Designer Of The Year” at the 2021 Africa Fashion Awards, AFA, in London in September, I am blessed with another recognition. I'm the luckiest girl in the world.
